Can BOTOX Refresh Your Appearance?

BOTOX® is unquestionably the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment available today, and for good reason. Every single year, millions of botox treatments are administered around the globe. One of the reasons why this treatment is so popular is because of how effective it is.

When it was first introduced, this treatment was the best kept secret of the rich and famous. Out of nowhere, movie stars started to look younger than they had in years. When someone asked them if they had had a cosmetic surgical procedure, they were able to honestly say that they did not. People could not tell what these famous individuals were doing, but they could tell that they were starting to look younger and more refreshed.

As with most things that have their start with the rich and famous, botox treatments trickled down and became popular among everyday people. In about 2009, there was an uptick in the number of men who started to use these treatments. This is because during this time, there was an economic downturn in the United States and around the world. Men who were in their late 30’s to mid-40’s found themselves competing against men and women who were equally as qualified to do a job but were a lot younger. In order to stay competitive, they had to do whatever they could to keep themselves looking their best.

Now, these treatments have become so mainstream that some are even using them as a preventative tool. They are not waiting until they start to develop wrinkles before they have a BOTOX® treatment, but they are being proactive and using these treatments as a way of preventing the conditions that could lead to them having wrinkles when they get to their late 30’s and early 40’s.

What Types of Wrinkles Can BOTOX® Treat?

For as much as people know about this treatment, there still seems to be a whole lot of confusion. BOTOX® is a neuro-modulator. This means that it is a product that is designed to modulate the way your nerves response to signals that are sent from the brain.

Your facial muscles contract countless times throughout the day. Some of this facial muscle contraction is voluntary, but the vast majority of it is involuntary. It’s the way that your body reacts when you feel emotions. When you’re worried, even without thinking about it, your face develops a frown. When you’re happy, without thinking about it, you smile, and wrinkles develop along the sides of your eyes.

These wrinkles that develop as a result of facial muscle movement are called dynamic wrinkles. When you were younger, dynamic wrinkles were not a big deal. Your skin was pliable enough that it could easily bounce back after every facial expression that you made.

Now that you are older and your skin has gotten thinner, it does not have that ability to spring back like it did a few years ago. You have likely noticed that the areas where you have dynamic wrinkles, such as around your eyes and on your forehead, may even be starting to develop permanent creases.

BOTOX® is designed to relax your facial muscles so that when you make facial expressions, your facial muscles do not contract so forcefully. As a result, your skin is not folded and creases and dynamic wrinkles are not formed. In some cases, if your skin is allowed to rest thanks to these treatments, even the etched-in wrinkles you have already developed may start to fade away.

It is important to differentiate between dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles. Static wrinkles are the wrinkles that you have on your face regardless of the facial expressions that you are making. These are the wrinkles that develop as a result of a loss of facial volume. Static wrinkles are the wrinkles that develop because of the effect that the sun is having on your skin. In order to correct these wrinkles, you are going to need to use dermal fillers or another treatment that is able to fill in the wrinkles and perhaps even tighten the skin.

What Should I Expect Before, During, and After the Treatment?

If you are considering BOTOX® treatments, it is understandable that you are curious about what you should expect before, during, and after your treatments. Since this is a non-surgical treatment, you are not going to need a lot of preparation before the treatment. During your consultation with us, we may discuss certain medications you will want to stay away from in the days leading up to your visit with us as these medications may lead to excessive bleeding and other unnecessary complications that could have otherwise been avoided.

In our initial consultation with you, we will discuss what your goals are. We will evaluate your face and will tell you what you should realistically expect from the treatment. During this initial consultation, it is going to be great for you to ask all the questions that you have. The more informed you are about the treatment, the happier you will likely be with the end result.

The actual treatment itself is only going to take minutes of your time. Since it’s non-surgical and minimally-invasive, no anesthesia is required. If you like, a numbing agent may be used in order to help you feel as comfortable as possible during the entire treatment. We use the Accuvein to avoid blood vessels and reduce bruising.

During the treatment session, the BOTOX® will be administered to the specific muscles that we are looking to treat. Once the treatment is done, you will be able to leave our clinic and go right back to your everyday activities with no change in your plans.

You should not expect to see the results of the treatment immediately. In most cases, it takes between three and seven days for the treatment to take full effect. Once the treatment takes effect, you should expect to see results for multiple months. Gradually, lines and wrinkles will begin to reappear. When this happens, simply return to our clinic to get a touch-up treatment in order to maintain your youthful and refreshed appearance.

Benefits of BOTOX®

One of the best things about BOTOX® is the fact that it’s entirely non-surgical. The treatments are designed to be quick and convenient, even for clients with busy schedules and lifestyles. You can simply come to our office, receive the injections, and then go about the rest of your day. No set downtime is required, which helps the treatment to be discreet and simple.

Another benefit is the natural-looking results. There is a common misconception out there that BOTOX® produces a frozen or unnatural-looking face. This simply isn’t true, especially when you have the treatment performed by a qualified and experienced professional like the ones at Nourished MedSpa & Wellness Center. Our specialist knows just how much of the solution to inject and where to inject it in order to bring about results that look natural and beautiful.

Yet another benefit of this treatment is its preventative usage. We have seen a surge of younger individuals opting for BOTOX® treatment as a way to prevent dynamic wrinkles from becoming an issue in the first place. The sooner you are able to address these wrinkles, the less of a problem they will be in the future.

These treatments are easily repeatable. Clients can simply come to our office as needed in order to maintain their youthful look. Oftentimes, less and less of the BOTOX® fluid is required during touch-up treatments, as the muscles are becoming trained to stay in a relaxed state.

This treatment is popular with both men and women. Although it was once only associated with mature women in their middle-age years, we have seen clients of various ages receiving the injections. Most of these people continue coming back for more injections because they realize just how much it does to rejuvenate their appearance.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Just like any other cosmetic treatment, good candidates are in good overall health and have realistic expectations regarding the treatment and the results. It’s important to understand that BOTOX® will not make you look like a different person; it will simply erase or fade your dynamic wrinkles. Good candidates for the treatment understand what it can and cannot do for them. Of course, our team will help you with this when you come in for your consultation.

Good candidates also have the type of wrinkles that BOTOX® is designed to treat. These include wrinkles at the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet), horizontal forehead lines, and the wrinkles between the eyebrows. As we previously mentioned, if you are dealing with static wrinkles, this is not the right treatment. With that being said, BOTOX® can be combined with other treatments like fillers for those who are dealing with both types of wrinkles.
