Why Consider Chemical Peels?

chemical peels

A chemical peel might be right for you if your skin has developed wrinkles and lines, especially around your mouth and eyes, areas of uneven pigmentation and rough skin caused by sun damage. Chemical peels are also good if you have some kind of acne and shallow scars, or if you simply want your skin to look and feel more youthful.

Who Is a Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

As with other cosmetic treatments, a candidate for chemical peel is in overall good health, and has realistic expectations when it comes to what a chemical peel can do for their skin.

You will have a consultation with a member of our team to determine if you’re a good candidate for a chemical peel. They will take your medical history, and you will need to divulge any medications you are on, including anticoagulants. They may ask you to temporarily stop medications that can compromise your chemical peel or your healing from it. Depending on the type of peel you’ll have, they may prescribe certain topical and oral medications to prepare you for the procedure.

Types of Chemical Peels

There are three main types of chemical peels. They are light, medium and deep. During a light chemical peel, a trained member of our team paints your face with a fruit acid such as glycolic acid, leaves it on for a short time then rinses it off. You can leave the our office right after the treatment, and go back to your usual routine. Light peels are used to smooth skin that has some sun damage and rough texture. You might want a series of light peels scheduled a few weeks apart.

A medium peel softens the look of lines and corrects uneven pigmentation. During this peel, we may use glycolic acid mixed with trichloroacetic acid and Jessner’s solution. You’ll need about a week to recover from this type of peel, but it will smooth out wrinkles, remove areas of hyperpigmentation and leave your skin clearer and brighter.
