How Many Units of Xeomin Do I Need?

Are you looking for a more relaxed and youthful appearance for your skin? If so, then you may want to try anti-wrinkle injections. With so many options out there, it’s hard to choose the right treatment. At Nourished MedSpa and Wellness Center in Sherman, TX, we are here to answer your questions about the anti-wrinkle treatments Botox and Xeomin and help you learn more about choosing the right anti-wrinkle injection for you.

What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a safe treatment option for making your skin look younger and more pliable. They offer a non-surgical option that returns the wrinkle-free skin of youth. Unlike fillers, anti-wrinkle injections relax muscles, causing the appearance of wrinkles to be minimized rather than filling deep wrinkles. They are typically used for relaxing the wrinkles which develop on your face as you age. They can reduce a variety of wrinkle types and even address other issues. They work on both expression lines and sagging skin wrinkles.

In many anti-wrinkle injections, the bacteria Botulinium, a neurotoxin, is the main active ingredient. The anti-aging properties in Botulinium can make you look years younger. This is because Botulinium works by preventing nerve signals from reaching your muscles, stopping your muscles from contracting. This means that your skin will not crease, allowing the skin to recover and causing wrinkles to become invisible. This can remove the appearance of angry wrinkles across your face.

What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin is an anti-wrinkle injection which has been available in the United States since the end of 2011, mainly as a treatment for vertical forehead wrinkles. It is specifically designed to prevent the formation of wrinkles. Xeomin’s sole ingredient is botulinum toxin A, meaning it does not have the extra additives that leave your skin feeling tight and immobile. It does not contain any additional active ingredients or additives and does not require refrigeration.

Many people enjoy this treatment option because it can be less costly and more effective than other injections. It is tough enough to relax the toughest muscles, although it has the slowest onset rate. However, it is the only anti-wrinkle injection which patients do not build a resistance to. It has been approved in the United States to treat several medical conditions and moderate-to-severe wrinkles.

Is It Safe and Effective?

When administered by a qualified professional, this treatment is safe. Our doctor will tailor your plan so you get the most effective results. He will administer your treatment in a safe environment and properly plan how much to administer so you will get exactly the results you’re looking for.

What Can You Treat With Xeomin?

Anti-wrinkle injections can treat many types of cosmetic blemishes that develop as you age. They are most commonly used to treat wrinkles that develop on your face and neck, such as upper forehead lines, vertical forehead lines, crow’s feet, chin wrinkles, nose lines, and neck bands. They can also help with other cosmetic issues, such as a down-turned mouth and gummy smile. Some anti-wrinkle injections can treat other medical conditions, such as excessive sweating.

Here are just a few of the issues that anti-wrinkle injections are useful in treating:

Vertical Forehead Lines

When we furrow our eyebrows, vertical lines can form on our forehead. Also known as glabellar lines or frown lines, these lines on your forehead can be reduced by anti-wrinkle injections. In this treatment, the anti-wrinkle fluid is injected above and along your brow line to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the skin.

Upper Forehead Lines

Upper forehead lines form horizontally across the top of your forehead from years of raising your eyebrows. These lines can be reduced by anti-wrinkle injections across the front of your forehead where the lines are most prominent. This is one of the most commonly treated cosmetic issues. Upper forehead lines and vertical forehead lines are often treated together.

Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet wrinkles form at the sides of your eyes where they appear to spread toward the hairline. They form from years of those strong smiles that cause your eyes to squint. You can reduce these lines through anti-wrinkle injections. In a crow’s feet treatment, you will have anti-wrinkle fluids injected along the sides of your eyes.

Other Issues

On top of these most common issues, anti-wrinkle injections can treat other cosmetic blemishes. For instance, they can give you a brow lift or make your jaw appear thinner. They can also reduce the appearance of smoker’s lines and neck bands. They can also treat additional medical conditions, such as hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating.

How Many Units Will You Need?

Typically, it is recommended that to treat vertical forehead lines you use twenty units per treatment. These units should be injected into five different sites targeting both corrugator and procerus muscles. If you are getting treated for something else, or if your individual case is more or less severe, you may require a different number of units. Women typically require fewer units than men. A consultation with us will tell you how many units you will need.

Medical conditions being treated with anti-wrinkle injections typically require fifty to one hundred units. Some issues, such as muscle spasticity, can require up to four hundred units. You should never receive more than four hundred units at one time.

About Treatment

Price

Depending on the number of units administered, your treatment cost will vary considerably. Upper forehead line treatments require the least units and are the cheapest, while the treatment of vertical forehead lines require many units and can be the costliest. It is also possible that men will require more units than women because they have larger muscles. Keep in mind that you will probably want to repeat this procedure every three to four months to keep up your results.

Process

When you get a treatment through us, your treatment will begin at our office where we will identify your injection sites and mark your veins. Accuvein, the vein highlighting system we use, will also reduce healing time. The Accuvein device uses contactless technology to allow us to see where your veins are located so we can avoid them when performing injections.

Then, a sterile needle is used to inject the fluid into the muscles of your face. Treatments are short, although time varies depending on the number of injection sites and severity of the issue being treated.

After-Care and Results

After your treatment, there is no required downtime, meaning you should be able to return to your daily activities immediately. It is okay to wash the area and cover it with makeup; just make sure you do not immediately scratch the area. However, you will probably want to avoid lying down on the area for about four hours. You should also avoid a deep tissue massage or a heat treatment in the area for approximately two days.

You will notice the results within a few days after your treatment, although it could take up to a week for the results to become noticeable. Between two weeks and a month after your treatment, you will have achieved your optimal results. Your results should appear natural and not give you the frozen face look. The results of each treatment can vary from person to person.

Follow-Up Treatments

As with any other anti-wrinkle treatment, your results are not permanent and will fade after about three months, although they can last up to six months. Your nerve impulses will reach the muscles again and wrinkles will form again. If you wish to keep your younger and wrinkle-free skin, repeat your procedure every three to four months. This treatment should not be administered more frequently than every three months. However, if you are using this injectable to treat a medical condition, you may require less frequent treatments.

Are You a Good Candidate?

This treatment is safe for most healthy adults. It is recommended for adults who wish to have younger, wrinkle-free skin through a non-surgical option. You may also consider this treatment if you are no longer getting the same effects from your Botox treatments. At your initial consultation, it will be determined if it is safe for you to receive a treatment. It will also be determined if this is the best treatment to give you the optimal results you desire. Be sure to answer all questions concerning your medical history and goals honestly to ensure that you are a good fit for this treatment.

You can also get treatment in preparation for a special event. For instance, if you want to look your best on your wedding day, you may get a treatment to reduce your wrinkles. If this is the case, get your treatment at least two weeks before your special event so you can enjoy maximum results.

Alternative Treatment Options

If you have considered a Xeomin treatment and have decided that it is not for you, do not be alarmed. There are several alternatives that can treat similar issues. Botox and Dysport are the main alternatives. They both act similarly to Xeomin because they use the same active ingredient.

Botox

Botox is the original anti-wrinkle treatment, typically used to treat excessive sweating, migraines, muscle spasticity, and cosmetic blemishes on the face and neck. The main difference is that Botox has several more proteins added to it beside of the main bacteria. You typically need a similar dose of Botox than you would Xeomin. However, Botox is a more costly option, with the average treatment significantly higher per session. Many individuals have had successful Botox treatments that make their wrinkles nearly invisible. Botox results can last up to six months.

Ready for Wrinkle-Free Skin?

Anti-wrinkle treatments can offer a non-surgical alternative for youthful and wrinkle-free skin. They can also treat certain medical conditions upon a doctor’s approval.
