Microneedling is a proven means to induce the growth and development of smooth skin. When your skin gets wrinkled and becomes brittle in appearance, marked with blemishes, and has a rough texture, it tends to stay that way. The cells making up these damaged tissues keep reproducing. Microneedling basically kickstarts a skin rejuvenation process that includes collagen remodeling. The SkinPen is an FDA-approved device that promotes healthy skin tissue in areas where damaged cells exist. Everything from fine wrinkles to uneven skin tone can be treated with the SkinPen.
The Process
The idea behind microneedling is quite simple. During the treatment, many tiny micro-openings are created in the skin. Most of the treatment plans we design involve a series of sessions targeting the same area of skin surface. After multiple treatments, nearly all of the skin in the affected area has been targeted.
When tiny micro-channels are created by the SkinPen, they fill up with lymphatic fluid and blood. What happens next is a rebuilding phase where granulation cells form. This is followed by the remodeling phase, during which new dermal tissue is created. This newly formed tissue is healthier than what it replaced.
About the SkinPen
The SkinPen was developed to treat smaller and hard-to-reach areas. This is different from the roller-style devices used to treat an entire side of the face. A disposable tip is attached to the instrument. The device can be calibrated in a way that pulls the tip in or out, so we can control the depth to which the skin is affected.
A typical treatment session that targets several areas containing blemishes can usually be completed in less than an hour. In the weeks and months following the final treatment, improvement in skin tone and texture becomes apparent. This improvement continues for the following months. This is why the treatment is sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy. The new tissue gets a great boost of collagen and other beneficial proteins.
Much Simpler Than Surgery
Surgical fixes all have drawbacks. The skin tone can be negatively affected, and not all individuals are candidates for invasive surgery. Microneedling with the SkinPen is a simple alternative, and it’s very effective at improving the appearance of blemishes, scarring, and other discolorations.
